Constructivism
If teachers teach children to "construct" knowledge, does this mean that this comes at the expense of teaching the "discovery" of knowledge? American philosopher, Richard Rorty, who unfortunately just recently passed away, argued yes, Because the human subject is taught to linguistically construct knowledge, there is no such thing as "discoverable knowledge." Constructivists believe that the idea of the pure discovery of knowledge is an old fashioned one, and an impossible dream - but is it? Have you ever discovered something about nature, or math, or language? Is all knowledge merely, as it says in our psych book, a representation of reality, rathan than reality as it is in itself?
